In 1955, Adarsh and Bhawani Dutt got married in a small town in Uttar Pradesh.
B.D. came from humble beginnings: the eldest son of a bank clerk with the responsibility of supporting his younger siblings. He worked by day and studied by night under the street light outside his house. An exceptionally bright student, his love of learning and unwavering spirit never let him quit the pursuit of higher education. He finished his Masters in Economics and Hindi Visharad with flying colours and started his career with the Central Government Service working in the Ministry of Education.
Adarsh came from a rather well-to-do family but could not go to college because she was told that being a girl, the education she had received was already enough for her. After setting up home in Delhi, she decided to resume her education. During the day she looked after the running of the house and cared for her three children. She studied at night, compromising the few hours of rest she needed. With perseverance and an unyielding drive, she provided herself the education she was denied: she completed her graduation and post graduation in Hindi Literature from Delhi University.
Adarsh and B.D. nurtured their children with love and instilled in them a deep respect for education. They built a retirement home in their hometown and named it ‘Parijat’.
Samparijat Foundation was founded by their children Alok, Sameer, and Meeta with a shared sense of purpose and passion. The Foundation is their resolve to honouring the legacy of their parents and empowering those who are deserving of opportunities that may be outside their reach. Together with their spouses and children, who are equally committed to this initiative, the family foundation provides an umbrella to consolidate efforts, resources, and ideas to bring about meaningful impact in education, elder care, environment conservation, and more.
